Camden is the borough of London, England, and Middlesex's historic district. It is located north of Westminster and the city of London. The area extends about 8 km from the base of High Holborn (road) to the northern elevation of Hampstead Heath. Camden was created as a county in 1965 by amalgamating different counties. The route of the ancient Roman highway was partially followed by Watling Street, a section (in modern Kilburn Highway and Shoot-up Hill) running along the western edge of Camden. In the southern part, the Holborn district includes an area once occupied by two medieval villages (Holborn and St. Giles) and three estates - Blemondesberi (Blemundsbury), Soke of Portlepoole and Liberty of Ely Place.

Hampstead was an Anglo-Saxon village; In the 10th century AD, this residence was given to Westminster Abbey. By 1086, St Pancras was held by St Paul's Church and was divided into the estates of Pancras, Tothele (Totenhall) and Rugmere and a portion of land identified as Kennistoune or Cantelowes. In the 15th century, Eton College acquired Chalcot Farm (the name Chalk Farm) as a gift from Henry VI; The prestigious middle school still owns many properties in the area.
