The London Borough of Havering is in East London, England, and is part of the London Suburbs. It has a population of 259,552; The main town is Romford, while other communities are Hornchurch, Upminster, Collier Row and Rainham. The district is primarily suburban, with many areas of protected green space. Romford is a major retail and nightlife hub, and to the south, the borough extends to the London Waterfront redevelopment of the Thames Gateway. The name Having refers to the Haver's Freedom Queen, who occupied the area for several centuries. The local government is the London Area Council. This is London's most easterly district.
