Medway is a town and unitary authority in the United Kingdom. It is located in the county of Kent, on the River Medway, and is part of the London commuter belt. The town had a population of 187,200 at the 2011 census.
Medway was founded in the 7th century by the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Kent, and became a borough in 1275. It became an urban district in 1894 and a municipal borough in 1937. It was granted borough status in 1965 and became a unitary authority on 1 April 1998.
