Lambeth is a borough in south London, England. It is located a mile south of Charing Cross.
The area experienced significant development during the Victorian era as London grew in size, with dense industrial, commercial and residential buildings juxtaposed. The changes brought about by the Second World War significantly altered the texture of Lambeth.
Further development in the late 20th and early 21st centuries saw an increase in tall buildings. This area is the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization. Lambeth is home to one of the largest Portuguese-speaking communities in the United Kingdom and is the second most spoken language in Lambeth after English.
